Chatham County increases water rates

Water rates are going up in Chatham County.

For residential and multi-unit residential complexes, it will mean an increase from $5.35 to $6 per 1,000 gallons of water up to 5,000 gallons, $6.68 to $7.50 per 1,000 gallons of water for 5,000 to 8,000 gallons, and $8.02 to $9 per 1,000 gallons of water for over 8,000 gallons.

It will increase the average monthly residential water bills from $39.55 to $47.76 for North Chatham customers, from $29.59 to $36.59 for southeast Chatham customers, and from $29.60 to $36.60 for Southwest Chatham customers.

County commissioners have scheduled the following community meetings concerning water district expansion: 7 p.m. April 22 at Silk Hope School, April 27 at Moncure School and April 29 at Chatham Central High School.
