Pittsboro, NC - You and your family and friends are invited to the 61st annual Chatham County Agriculture & Industrial Fair, September 28 through October 1, 2011. Come and join the Chatham community at this family-friendly fair in Pittsboro, during 4 fun-filled days of events for everyone.

View the arts and crafts, fruits, vegetables and livestock of Chatham County. Boney's Amusements will provide rides and games for young kids to enjoy. Musicians will be performing every night and all day on Saturday. High School and younger students are free on Wednesday, opening day, lunch for seniors is on Friday, and a youth talent show will be held on Saturday.

Come on out and bring the family, smell the aroma of the food and enjoy a taste of what our county has to offer.

The 2011 Chatham County Fair, held in Pittsboro starting Wednesday, September 28 through Saturday, October 1, has come a long way from its debut 61 years ago as the Chatham County Colored Agricultural Fair on the grounds of the Goldston Lumber Company.

In 1950, the Fair allowed prominent members of local African-American communities and county agricultural agents a venue to spotlight the production of goods, skills and crafts they'd helped hone in rural black Chatham County. Local families from all over the county had a safe, friendly place to gather and visit at this much anticipated annual event.

Fast forward to 2011, when everyone is encouraged to attend and help celebrate this year's theme "The Arts of Chatham". Fairgoers will also enjoy children's carnival rides, and an *amazing* variety of live music indoors and outdoors every day. Check the website for particulars on the talent show, line dancing, beach bingo, and wrestling. The watermelon and pumpkin contests are back this year as is an ice-cream churn off. Free pony rides through Heads-Up Therapeutic Riding are tentatively scheduled for Saturday. Informational booths covering topics of local interest will fill the fair building. Please check the fair’s web site as the list of events is updated.

As with all traditional county fairs, there are dozens of competitions to be entered such as "Farm, Field and Forage Crops", "Fruits", "Herbs", and "Flowers and Plants". Other categories are "Livestock and Poultry", "Food
Conservation" which includes canned fruits, canned vegetables, jams, jellies, and preserves, "Breads, Cakes, Cookies, Candies and Pies". "Adult Clothing Arts and Crafts" includes categories of knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch, and weaving in addition to arts and photography, ceramics, woodworking and other craft items. A section of competitive opportunities exists exclusively for children, too.
