Chatham county, NC - With the return of dry weather, low humidity and sporadic high winds, several brush fires were reported in the Triangle area yesterday. Given the hazardous situation, the NC Division of Forest Resources has once again issued a burning ban for 100 counties, effective at noon today.

Chatham County Fire Marshal Tom Bender said that the “only allowed burning is controlled burning of small brush, leaves, and vegetation, which must be contained within an area not less than 50 feet from a structure and not more than 100 feet from a structure.”

Bender said that he recommends that any burning be handled with extreme caution and that property owners keep a close eye on the fire. “I also would urge you to delay this until more favorable conditions have returned.”
