Pittsboro, NC - In January the Chatham County Board of County Comissioners proclaimed February 2013 Spay Neuter Awareness Month and called upon the citizens of Chatham County to have their own pet spayed or neutered or to sponsor the spaying or neutering of another's pet or an animal in the shelter awaiting adoption.

To celebrate World Spay Day and Spay Neuter Awareness month Chatham Animal Rescue & Education, Inc. (CARE) is offering FREE spay surgery for female dogs and cats for families who qualify for CARE's targeted spay/neuter program, Lillie's Fund. Applications must be postmarked before midnight Friday, March 15. Limit of 3 females per family.

BEAT THE HEAT ends Friday, but citizens of Chatham County have two excellent spay/neuter programs to choose from at any time: CARE's Lillie's Fund and the Spay Neuter program sponsored by the Animal Control Division of the Chatham County Health Department. Both programs offer spay/neuter services for a low $20 co-pay per pet.

Contact CARE at 919-542-5757 or -- click on any spay/neuter link for an application today. Contact Chatham County Animal Control at 919-542-7203.

CARE is a nonprofit animal welfare organization that promotes responsible pet ownership by educating the community, providing targeted spay/neuter programs, and fostering homeless cats and dogs until they are placed in loving, permanent homes.
