Siler City, NC - To promote a higher rate of 2010 Census questionnaires in Siler City, the US Census Bureau is working with town staff and local organizations to host a March to the Mailbox campaign on Saturday, April 10, in the Downtown Courtyard from 9 to 11:30 am.

Several communities like Siler City that were under-counted in the 2000 Census have been targeted for the March to the Mailbox event. The goal is to remind people to fill out their Census questionnaire and get it in the mail at the Siler City Post Office.

The event will include having extra Census questionnaires available for those who have not received one or lost one for their household and Census helpers to assist people with completing the questionnaires. The Hispanic Liaison will provide assistance to help answer questions from Spanish-speaking residents.

Activities include live music, face painting for kids, music and other activities. The Siler City’s Farmer’s Market will be open at this time and will have a few animals for a petting zoo.

The Hispanic Liaison is the main coordinator of the March to the Mailbox event, but the Town of Siler City, the Chatham County Manager’s Office, the Council on Aging, the Courtyard Coffee & Soda Café, other businesses and various volunteers are helping with the event.

Other locations in Siler City have copies of the Census questionnaire if you can’t make it to the event on Saturday:
