[Apr. 15, 2008] On April 10, the Chatham County Manager’s Office received notice that the US Census Bureau will not be hiring any local Census workers as part of the 2008 Census Dress Rehearsal. Households are urged to voluntarily mail back Census forms, because no workers will visit homes to collect information.

[Mar. 25, 2008] Anyone concerned about Chatham County residents having a decent place to call home that is within their budgets is invited to attend the Affordable Housing Summit on April 11 at the Western Chatham Senior Center in Siler City. The event begins at 9 am and will end at 4 pm, with registration starting at 8:30 am. Registration is free and includes lunch.

[Feb. 21, 2008] On Feb. 18, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners adopted a revised water conservation ordinance that promotes year-round conservation, while allowing certain types of outdoor watering on specified days. The revised ordinance is effective immediately.

[Feb. 21, 2008] Chatham County residents who don’t normally need to file a federal tax return may want to do so this year to receive the federal government’s economic stimulus payments. “Seniors or others living on Social Security payments or small pensions may not have filed a return for years, but they may be eligible for at least $300 payments if they do file,” said Angel Dennison, director of the Chatham Council on Aging.

[Jan. 11, 2008] Chatham County property owners can expect to see county appraisers visiting their properties over the next six months, starting in the western part of the county in late January, said Tax Administrator Tina Stone.

[Jan. 7, 2008] Chatham County's first Human Relations Director, Esther B. Coleman, joined the county on Jan. 2, 2008. Chatham County commissioners approve 5-year capital plan
[Jan. 7, 2008] At its meeting on Jan. 7, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved the county's 2009-2013 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which funds a wide range of county and school facility needs. The CIP provides a funding plan for all facilities and equipment expected to cost at least $50,000.

[Jan. 2, 2008] Chatham County taxpayers should receive their 2008 county tax listing forms in a few days. The General Assembly has increased the household income limit to $25,000 for homeowners 65 or older or who are permanently, totally disabled to qualify for a property tax exemption for their permanent residence. Applications must be made by June 1.
