Sedimentation & erosion control program wins top state honor[Apr. 29, 2008] Earlier this year, Chatham’s Erosion and Sedimentation Control Program received one of two top statewide awards at a banquet hosted by the NC Sedimentation Control Commission. The awards program has two categories based on staff size, with Chatham winning the top award for programs with no more than three full-time staff members.
Census forms arriving in Chatham as agency cancels hiring workers[Apr. 15, 2008] On April 10, the Chatham County Manager’s Office received notice that the US Census Bureau will not be hiring any local Census workers as part of the 2008 Census Dress Rehearsal. Households are urged to voluntarily mail back Census forms, because no workers will visit homes to collect information.
Chatham County summit to focus on affordable housing needs[Mar. 25, 2008] Anyone concerned about Chatham County residents having a decent place to call home that is within their budgets is invited to attend the Affordable Housing Summit on April 11 at the Western Chatham Senior Center in Siler City. The event begins at 9 am and will end at 4 pm, with registration starting at 8:30 am. Registration is free and includes lunch.
Chatham Planning Board to meet at Briar Chapel entrance[Mar. 14, 2008] The Chatham County Planning Board will hold a special meeting Saturday, March 29, 2008 beginning at 10 a.m. on site at the entrance to Briar Chapel located on the north side of Andrews Store Road adjacent to the intersection with Parker Herndon Road.
Chatham hires legal firm to handle tax foreclosures[Mar. 4, 2008] Chatham County recently joined many counties across the state in seeking outside legal expertise to help them collect past-due property taxes through foreclosures on real estate properties.
Chatham residents invited to major corridors community meetings[Feb. 25, 2008] “Citizens around Chatham County may have heard about the effort to plan commercial development along some of our major roadways, but it is unlikely they have specific details about the proposal. This is an opportunity to learn more and to ask questions or express concerns,” said Loyse Hurley, President of CCEC-Institute Inc.
Chatham commissioners adopt a revised water conservation ordinance[Feb. 21, 2008] On Feb. 18, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners adopted a revised water conservation ordinance that promotes year-round conservation, while allowing certain types of outdoor watering on specified days. The revised ordinance is effective immediately.
Chatham residents must file tax return to get economic stimulus payments[Feb. 21, 2008] Chatham County residents who don’t normally need to file a federal tax return may want to do so this year to receive the federal government’s economic stimulus payments. “Seniors or others living on Social Security payments or small pensions may not have filed a return for years, but they may be eligible for at least $300 payments if they do file,” said Angel Dennison, director of the Chatham Council on Aging.
