Chatham County Commissioners update list of advisory board assignments[Jan. 6, 2009] The Chatham County Board of Commissioners has updated its list of commissioner assignments to dozens of county and regional advisory boards and committees. In the majority of cases, commissioners serve as a non-voting member or liaison, but in a few cases, the commissioner is a voting member.
Town of Pittsboro offers volunteer opportunities[Dec. 5, 2008] Have an interest in gardening? The Town of Pittsboro would love to form or work with existing area garden clubs to help us enliven our public spaces including the Community House, Town Lake Park, the Town Hall and our water treatment plant.

Chatham Social Services will be closed for move[Oct. 2, 2008] A major move of employees will require Chatham County Social Services offices in Pittsboro to be closed to the public longer than originally reported for Friday, Oct. 3. The phone system also will be affected by the move, according to Sandy Coletta, director of Social Services.
Patrick Barnes elected vice chair of the CCCC's Board of Trustees[Sep. 2, 2008] Chatham County Commissioner Patrick Barnes recently was elected vice chair of the Board of Trustees for Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) and also was appointed by Speaker of the House Joe Hackney to serve on the newly created N.C. Small Business Contractor Authority in the State Department of Commerce.

Hearing aid company banned from Chatham Senior Centers[Aug. 25, 2008] The Chatham County Council on Aging has stopped a Beltone hearing aid franchise from using its two senior centers for hearing testing. "We learned that the franchise was using the centers as a place to sell their products," said Angel Dennison, the council's director.
Some southeast Chatham areas may lose chance for county water[Aug. 14, 2008] Unless more southeastern Chatham residents living on certain roads sign up and pay the reduced rate tap fee for county water service by Sept. 10, 2008, they run the risk of not having county water service in their area. “This means that even if they don’t want to be Southeast Water District customers now, they may well be shutting the door on that option for the future,” said Roy Lowder, director of Water Utilities.
Chatham County Health Department is providing Tdap immunizations[Aug. 6, 2008] Chatham County Public Health Department is providing Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) immunizations to anyone age 10 through 64. Adolescents and adults should receive a single dose of Tdap to replace a single dose of Td for booster immunization. The vaccine is available free of charge and is available by appointment during regular immunization clinic hours (Pittsboro site Tuesdays 8- 5pm by appointment, Siler City site Monday – Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm by appointment).
Chatham 2008 tax bills hit the mail[Aug. 1, 2008] Chatham County residents can expect to receive their 2008 county tax bills within the next couple of weeks. "They will be mailed on August 4," said Chatham County Tax Administrator Tina Stone.
Chatham Partnership receives grant to study Rocky River watershed[Jul. 1, 2008] A Chatham County partnership will receive a $198,000 grant from North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to restore and protect water resources in the Rocky River watershed.
HIV Testing: regular hours and special evening events coming up[Jun. 21, 2008] The Chatham Social Health Council will be offering free, rapid, confidential HIV testing at Main Street Station near the Hardee's and Piggly Wiggly in Pittsboro every Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting on June 23. This test uses no needles, no blood, and no pain: it's an oral swab, and results come back in 20 minutes.

Air quality officials issue health notice[Jun. 11, 2008] Air quality officials issued a health notice for air pollution in the Fayetteville and Triangle metropolitan areas on Thursday as smoke from the large wildfire in Eastern North Carolina drifts westward. Forecasters have predicted Code Orange conditions, which means that air quality in Fayetteville, the Triangle and much of Eastern North Carolina is likely to be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Chatham County sign ordinance[Jun. 9, 2008] Chatham County has a sign ordinance that has been in place since the 1980s. It is a violation of the ordinance to erect any sign in or over the public right-of-way. The ordinance can be found on the county web-site in the ordinance section. The ordinance is Section 13, sub-section 13.4 item # 8 of the prohibited sign ordinance. It also a violation of NCDOT Regulation #19A NCAC 2E.0415 " Signs on Highway Right-of-Way".
