Chatham County commissioners approve 5-year capital plan
[Jan. 7, 2008] At its meeting on Jan. 7, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved the county's 2009-2013 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which funds a wide range of county and school facility needs. The CIP provides a funding plan for all facilities and equipment expected to cost at least $50,000.

[Jan. 2, 2008] Chatham County taxpayers should receive their 2008 county tax listing forms in a few days. The General Assembly has increased the household income limit to $25,000 for homeowners 65 or older or who are permanently, totally disabled to qualify for a property tax exemption for their permanent residence. Applications must be made by June 1.

Debris burning is banned across North Carolina
[Oct. 26, 2007] The N.C. Division of Forest Resources wants to remind people that a statewide ban on all open burning remains in effect until further notice. The N.C. Division of Forest Resources has banned all open burning and canceled all burning permits. The burn ban became effective Oct. 15, due to drought conditions across the state that have made forest fuels, such as pine straw and branches, extremely dry.

[Oct. 23, 2007] The town of Pittsboro is banning all outdoor watering. The Board of Commissioners voted Monday night to also ban the filling of swimming pools and ordered businesses to limit the use of evaporative cooling systems.

[Oct. 22, 2007] With no major rain expected in the near future and Jordan Lake nearly six feet below normal, Chatham County is banning all outdoor watering with county-supplied water, including banning the use of drip irrigation. The ban is effective on Monday, Oct. 29.

[Oct. 18, 2007] On Oct. 15, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved the appointment of Tina Stone, an 18-year employee of the county, as the new tax administrator.

[Oct. 2, 2007] The Chatham County Board of Commissioners voted yesterday to make some modifications in the county’s Stage 3 mandatory water restrictions, which took effect on Sept. 24, 2007. The revisions primarily mean that county water customers will have limited hours on one designated day per week to water their lawns and landscaping plants.

[Oct. 2, 2007] To clarify its intent to use most of the land transfer tax revenues for schools, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously today to restrict 85% of revenues for this purpose. The restriction is effective until at least the end of 2010, when a majority of the board will be up for re-election. County staff estimates that this action will provide about $2 million in additional revenues each year for school needs.

[Sep. 28, 2007] Chatham County did a public opinion poll and presented the reports at a public meeting in August. Highlights of the poll show that 36% of respondents felt the county was heading in the right direction. 43% thought the county was growing to fast. 49% felt that county property taxes were just right, while 48% felt their county taxes were too high. 47% oppose the land transfer tax.
