Chatham County attorney guilty of state tax crimes
[Feb. 4, 2009] A Chatham County attorney was found guilty in Wake County Superior Court on tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

[Feb. 1, 2009] On February 2, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners will consider a request to adopt Chatham County Human Relations Commission proposed 2009 Human Relations Month proclamation.

[Jan. 29, 2009] the Chatham County Board of Commissioners passed the ICE resolution – unanimously. The meeting room was filled with supporters of the resolution. Most of the CCHRC Members were able to attend – Margie Ellison, Chair; Marisol Jimenez McGee, Secretary/Treasurer, with her beautiful baby in tow; Scott Ford; Ilana Dubester, who has taught me so much about this issue and who helped craft the cover letter; Roy Barnes; and Martin Spritzer.

Chatham commissioners schedule Community meetings for western Chatham County
[Jan. 20, 2009] Residents who live or work in sections of western Chatham County are invited to attend one of two community meetings to share their concerns and priorities for the future. The meetings are scheduled for Jan. 29 at J. S. Waters School and Feb. 19 at Bonlee School, both beginning at 6:30 pm and located in the multipurpose rooms.
 
Chatham County commissioners meeting & liquor by the drink hearing rescheduled
[Jan. 20, 2009] The Chatham County Board of County Commissioners has rescheduled today's regular meeting and the public hearing. The new date is Monday, January 26, at 6 pm in the Superior Courtroom in Pittsboro. All agenda items and the public hearing on liquor by the drink will be moved to that date.
 
Chatham County offices are open but some services are limited
[Jan. 20, 2009] Despite the wintry weather, Chatham County offices are open but several offices will have reduced services as snow continues to impact countywide road conditions and school cancellations.

[Jan. 19, 2009] The Chatham County Public Health Department launched its first Diabetes Self-Management Education class on October 14th. In July, the Health Department was one of twelve new counties selected by the state to implement self-management education classes for diabetics. Participants are educated on taking medications, foot care, handling complications and many other topics that are critical to managing diabetes.

[Jan. 19, 2009] On Jan. 5th, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners joined the county’s Human Relations Commission in approving a resolution that expresses “strong opposition to any local governmental agency contracting with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to enforce federal immigration laws.” The major concern is that participation in ICE can have negative consequences for the community and local governments.
 
Senator Hagan's office to distribute inaugural tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis on Monday afternoon
[Jan. 16, 2009] Leftover inaugural tickets, originally reserved for ticket lottery winners, will be available in Senator Kay R. Hagan’s (D-NC) Washington, DC office on a first-come, first-served basis on Monday afternoon from 3-5 p.m.
 
Chatham County Commissioners update list of advisory board assignments
[Jan. 6, 2009] The Chatham County Board of Commissioners has updated its list of commissioner assignments to dozens of county and regional advisory boards and committees. In the majority of cases, commissioners serve as a non-voting member or liaison, but in a few cases, the commissioner is a voting member.
 
Town of Pittsboro offers volunteer opportunities

Chatham Social Services will be closed for move
[Oct. 2, 2008] A major move of employees will require Chatham County Social Services offices in Pittsboro to be closed to the public longer than originally reported for Friday, Oct. 3. The phone system also will be affected by the move, according to Sandy Coletta, director of Social Services.
 
Patrick Barnes elected vice chair of the CCCC's Board of Trustees
[Sep. 2, 2008] Chatham County Commissioner Patrick Barnes recently was elected vice chair of the Board of Trustees for Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) and also was appointed by Speaker of the House Joe Hackney to serve on the newly created N.C. Small Business Contractor Authority in the State Department of Commerce. By Debra Henzey
