Environmental impact study for Buck Mountain development to be reviewed by planning board
[May 3, 2004] The environmental impact assessment (EIA) prepared for the Buck Mountain Golf Community, an 800-acre planned unit residential development and golf course that drains into the Haw River northwest of Pittsboro, will be reviewed at the next Planning Board meeting on Tuesday, May 4th, in the Auditorium of the Agriculture Building in Pittsboro. [Feb. 9, 2004] North Carolina's May 4 primary will be delayed until July 20, the N.C. Board of Elections decided today. Candidates statewide, including local Chatham County candidates for the county commission and the board of education, were supposed to start filing for office today. Instead filing will start April 26 and end May 7.

[Feb. 8, 2004] A special meeting of the Planning Board on the Compact Community Ordinance (CCO) will take place on Tuesday, February 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Superior Courtroom in Pittsboro. The Planning Board will discuss proposed changes to draft A of the CCO made by the County Attorney that pertain to legal issues and make recommendations to the County Commissioners on those issues. [Feb. 5, 2004] Meeting dates have been set to establish three Chatham County water districts and a May bond referendum to pay for them. The meetings are scheduled for Feb. 10 at Silk Hope School for the North Chatham Water District (Hickory Mountain, Hadley and Albright townships), Thursday at Moncure School for the Southeast Chatham Water District (Cape Fear, Haw River and Oakland townships) and Feb. 19 at Harper's Cross Roads for the Southwest Chatham Water District (Bear Creek and Gulf townships).

[Feb. 1, 2004] The Chatham County's Sheriff's department nabbed one of Chatham County's most elusive suspects on Friday. The arrest came after an anonymous caller telephoned the Chatham County Emergency Operations Center and reported that Lester Wood was walking down Farrington Road in the north Chatham area.

[Jan. 24, 2004] Pittsboro town officials said Friday morning that it's safe again to use water from the Pittsboro system. Officials began telling residents Wednesday to use bottled water or boil tap water for five minutes before using it after a routine sample tested positive for E. coli, or fecal coliform bacteria.

The plan will assess the mobility needs of people and freight to and through the central portion of the state. It will have a major effect on Chatham County.

[Jan. 22, 2004] The Town of Pittsboro notified the North Carolina Division of Public Water of results from routine water sampling indicating the presence of E.coli/fecal coliform bacteria in the town's water supply.
