[Feb. 1, 2005] The Chatham County Animal Control Quality Improvement process follows the format outlined in the Chatham County Public Health Department’s (CCPHD) Quality Plan. The purpose of the Quality Improvement (QI) Plan is to provide a guide to design, measure, assess and pursue opportunities to continually improve service and program outcomes for the benefit of Chatham County residents.

[Jan. 30, 2005] Chatham County is looking for a new health director. Dorothy Cilenti, who has served in the role for the last three years, will become the Alamance County health director on March 1. Applications are being accepted for the Chatham health director position, with Feb. 25 as the closing date for applications.

[Jan. 23, 2005] The Chatham County Planning Board will have a special meeting Monday to make a final recommendation on whether commissioners should approve a conditional use permit for Briar Chapel, a 2,400-home development that would be off U.S. 15-501 across from Fearrington Village. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Pittsboro Memorial Library.

[Dec. 19, 2004] The deadline for paying Chatham County property taxes without interest is Jan. 5, 2005; however, to deduct property taxes from income taxes, they must be paid by Dec. 31, county officials said.

[Dec. 9, 2004] Senate Bill 1218 was ratified July 15, signed into law by Governor Easley's on August 17, 2004, and will go into effect January 1, 2005. Senate Bill 1218, introduced and sponsored by Senator William R. Purcell, can be considered to be a "booster seat" bill in that it will require most children less than age eight and 80 pounds to be restrained in a weight-appropriate child restraint.

[Aug. 4, 2004] Chatham County residents can expect to receive their 2004 county tax bills as early as this week, according to tax administrator Kim Horton. The earlier mailing date should give taxpayers more time to prepare and budget for payment by the due date, January 5, 2005, according to county officials. The tax rate of 64.64 cents per $100 will not change.

[Jun. 19, 2004] The July 20 election in Chatham County will include bond referendums for the three newly established water districts. They are the Northwest Chatham Water District (Hickory Mountain, Hadley and Albright townships), the Southeast Chatham Water District (Cape Fear, Haw River and Oakland townships) and the Southwest Chatham Water District (Bear Creek and Gulf townships).

[Jun. 8, 2004] The Art Department at Northwood High School presented a mural to Chatham County Sheriff Richard Webster on Thursday, May 27, that will hang in the main entrance area of the Pittsboro Sheriff’s Office. Students of Leslie Burwell accepted the invitation from Sheriff Webster to create a mural for visitors to the office to enjoy.
