Chatham County tax listing forms mailed[Jan. 3, 2006] With the new year, Chatham County residents can expect to receive their 2006 listing notices. The Chatham County Tax Office mailed annual listing notices to residents last week, according to Kim Horton, Tax Administrator. Taxpayers that have not received their notices by Friday (January 13) should contact the Tax Office for further listing instructions.
Collection Centers instituting new decal policy[Dec. 13, 2005] As of January 2006, a new decal program will begin in Chatham County. New decals will be issued each calendar year for admittance to Chatham County’s twelve Collection Centers for deposit of residential trash and recyclables. Issuance of decals will be based on payment of Chatham County Solid Waste Fee(s) – read below about fees. Residents of Chatham County must pay the Solid Waste Fee(s) and display a current decal in order to use any of the twelve collection centers.

Chatham County lifts mandatory water restrictions[Dec. 9, 2005] “Thanks to the recent cooperation of Mother Nature, Chatham County’s water supply sources have been replenished to the point that mandatory water usage restrictions have been lifted,” said Will Baker, director of the Chatham County Utilities Department. “We do urge residents to continue voluntary conservation efforts, because we never know when another drought may visit us.
Chatham County election results[Nov. 9, 2005] Unofficial vote results Tuesday showed Voller beating out incumbent Nancy May for the Pittsboro mayor's seat by eleven votes. According to the county Board of Elections, Voller totaled 278 votes while May had 267.
Chatham social worker wins state award[Nov. 8, 2005] There are thousands of social workers helping to improve their communities throughout the state. They help ensure that pregnant women get the services they need to have healthy children; they support families through education and counseling; they help the sick manage the medical system; and they do so much more.

Chatham County approves $133 million capital program[Nov. 7, 2005] Chatham County Commissioners took action Monday to build 11 public facilities with no additional tax increase. “I don’t know of any other jurisdiction that is able to achieve this kind of program,” stated Doug Carter, when presenting a financial plan to fund the facilities.

Chatham County issues mandatory water restrictions[Nov. 3, 2005] Due to the severe drought and its impact on water supply levels, Chatham County has issued mandatory water conservation for all county water system customers. “We have a major rainfall shortage that has dropped the level of Jordan Lake to nearly 3.5 feet below normal. Many counties and municipalities are experiencing similar conditions and also have mandated water conservation,” said Will Baker, director of the Chatham County Utilities Department.

Chatham County ordinance wins statewide planning award[Oct. 13, 2005] Chatham County’s Compact Community Ordinance recently garnered a top award from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association. The county received the Outstanding Planning Award for Small Communities at the group’s statewide planning conference in Fayetteville on Oct. 7.
'Robin Sage' exercise to begin[Oct. 12, 2005] Students attending the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC) here will participate in a two-week training exercise across a 15-county area in central North Carolina beginning Oct. 15, officials at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (SWCS) announced Oct. 11. The exercise, called "Robin Sage," will encompass the counties of Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Davidson, Guilford, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Rowan, Scotland, Stanly and Union.
Chatham flu and pneumonia immunization clinics[Oct. 11, 2005] Flu and pneumonia season (November – April) is almost here. The Chatham County Public Health Department has scheduled clinics to give the influenza and pneumonia immunization shots. Chatham begins construction of a water line to Silk Hope School[Sep. 21, 2005] Purchasing bottled water and using disposable products in the cafeteria may no longer be a necessity for Silk Hope Elementary. Chatham County officials estimate that construction of a water line to Silk Hope Elementary, which is now underway, should be completed within 90 days.
