Pittsboro, NC - Most home buyers would never consider purchasing a home without a thorough inspection of the structure and its operating systems. The same care must be taken to inspect the property’s well system and the quality of its drinking water.

If your water supply comes from a private well, you are responsible for assuring that it is safe. Routine testing for a few of the most common contaminants is recommended, even if your water appears clear and tastes good. Regular testing is valuable because it establishes a record of your well’s water quality.

A homeowner well workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 17, at 7:00 p.m. The workshop will be held in the auditorium at the Chatham County Agriculture Building in Pittsboro. Homeowners, prospective homeowners, realtors, builders and developers are urged to attend.

The workshop is being conducted jointly by the Chatham County Public Health Department and the Chatham County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.

Topics will include well permits, water testing, groundwater and geology, well abandonment, well protection, and well repairs.

The presenters from the Chatham County Public Health Department will be Terri Ritter, Environmental Health Program Specialist and Licensed Soil Scientist; and Nancy Leaver, Environmental Health Specialist.

The registration fee of $5.00 can be paid at the door. Please call 542-8202 to pre-register. Make checks payable to Chatham County Cooperative Extension. Mail to Cooperative Extension, PO Box 279, Pittsboro, NC 27312-0279. The registration covers advertising, refreshments, snacks, and workshop materials. .
