Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Public Health Department launched its first Diabetes Self-Management Education class on October 14th. In July, the Health Department was one of twelve new counties selected by the state to implement self-management education classes for diabetics. Participants are educated on taking medications, foot care, handling complications and many other topics that are critical to managing diabetes.
“I feel this first set of classes went extremely well. With the support we have here at the health department, these classes are going to continue to grow,” says Registered Dietician Zach Deaton.
“Going through this program has really given me some food for thought. I have learned how to keep my blood sugar in control by watching my diet and staying physically active,” says Willis Whitehead, program participant.
The classes are free for a limited time. If you are interested in more information on the Diabetes Self-Management Education classes, please contact Zach Deaton at 742-5641 or Kelcy Walker at 545-8520.
