Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Department of Social Services (DSS) invites residents to attend a celebration in honor of National Adoption Month. The event is slated for Monday, Nov. 15, at 5:15 pm at the Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro.

“The event will include a proclamation signed by the Chatham County Board of Commissioners and inspirational stories from local families whose lives have been changed by adoptive children,” said Jennie Kristiansen, family services program manager for DSS. Refreshments will be served after the program.

More than 90 children in the county are currently in foster care and need a permanent home, Kristiansen said. “We have had 59 children adopted since 2008, so we are making very good progress in finding good homes. But, we can’t stop now…we need to find more adoptive families for children in foster care.”

Various community partners, volunteers and adoption advocates will attend the celebration. “The goal is to place adoption in the public spotlight so that people across Chatham County will remember that this is a unique opportunity to bless a child’s life forever,” Kristiansen said.

Parking at the library is limited so attendees are encouraged to park at the Social Services Building and walk across NC 87 to the Chatham Community Library.
