Pittsboro, NC - Chatham County is asking people interested in agricultural issues to apply for several vacancies on the Agriculture Advisory Committee. Applications to serve are due by Sept. 19, 2014, by 5 pm.

The Agriculture Advisory Committee would especially like to have applicants who make the majority of their living in agriculture production, related agribusinesses and other agricultural activities. The committee advises the Board of Commissioners on agricultural issues and reviews and approves all property requesting to be part of a Voluntary Agriculture District.

Members should be willing and able to use email to stay in touch with the committee and upcoming agenda items.

The vacancies are countywide, so residents in all areas of the county are urged to apply. Terms will vary from one to three years, depending on when the vacancy occurred.

The county also seeks a diverse representation of the county’s key agricultural commodities or activities: livestock production (beef, dairy, small ruminants); contract poultry growers, nursery and landscape operations, equine, forestry, market growers (produce and local meats), agricultural education, agricultural finance and product suppliers.

Any new appointees would be eligible full term of three years after completing the initial vacancy term. The committee usually meets every two to three months on the second Tuesday at 7 pm in Pittsboro.

The committee application form and a map of commissioner districts used for many appointments can be found on this webpage: Click here. Or contact Debra Henzey at 919-542-8200 or debra.henzey@chathamnc.org to have a copy mailed or emailed to you.
