Chatham flu and pneumonia immunization clinics

Pittsboro, NC - Flu and pneumonia season (November – April) is almost here. The Chatham County Public Health Department has scheduled clinics to give the influenza and pneumonia immunization shots.

* Siler City (1000 South Tenth Avenue) – October 25, 2005 from 8:30-11:30 and 1:30-4:30. Walk-ins welcomed.

* Pittsboro (Dunlap Building, 80 East Street) – October 26, 2005 from 8:30-11:30 and 1:00-4:30. Appointment required by calling 542-8220

These immunizations are available to residents of Chatham County who are considered high risk. If you or someone you know is in one of the categories below, you are high risk and should get immunized.

· Persons 65 years & older

· Persons aged 2-64 years with underlying chronic medical conditions

· All women who are pregnant

· Health-care workers involved in direct patient care

· Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children aged less than 6 months

· Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities

· Children - aged 6-23 months who are healthy, aged 6 months through 18 years who are high risk, between 6 months and 18 years of age who are a household contact with a child 0 to 23 months

· Any household contacts of any high-risk child or adult listed above

Additional clinics may be added in the future depending upon supplies. Future clinics may have different guidelines for who should get immunized.

Parents or guardians must bring their child’s immunization record to the clinic.

The costs of the immunizations are covered by Medicaid and Medicare Part B. Otherwise the influenza immunization costs $30 and the pneumococcal immunization is $43.
