Raleigh, NC – A Chatham County attorney was found guilty in Wake County Superior Court on tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

After a three-day trial, Cabell Jones Regan, 55, of 365 Thompson St., Pittsboro was found guilty of five counts of willfully failing to file his state income tax returns for 2002-2006.

Wake County Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway sentenced Regan to a 90-day prison term. The sentence was suspended and Regan was placed on supervised probation for 36 months. He was also ordered to pay a $2,000 criminal fine and file and pay all taxes due.

The state’s evidence showed that Regan, a licensed attorney, operated law practices in Lumberton and Pittsboro. He also work intermittently at his wife’s medical practices as an administrative assistant for Carolina Rehabilitation Medical Associates, PA, and Darwin Medical Management in Fayetteville. Regan failed to file his tax returns reporting the income earned from 2002 through 2006.

Regan’s wife, Dr. Carolyn MacDonald of St. Pauls, pleaded guilty in November 2008 to failing to file her income tax returns.

The charges against Regan resulted from an investigation by the Department’s Fayetteville Collections Office and the Criminal Investigations Division.
