Pittsboro, NC - Angela Birchett, land use and zoning administrator for Chatham County’s Planning Department, recently received the 2013 Member of the Year Award from the North Carolina Association of Zoning Officials (NCAZO) for her role in enhancing certification standards.
On August 19, 2013, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners recognized this achievement by adopting a resolution honoring Birchett, who has worked for the county for almost 17 years.
Birchett voluntarily chaired NCAZO’s Certification Committee and made certification standards a top priority of the membership group.
Birchett also helped develop new policies and procedures related to certification and helped create a new ethics policy for zoning officials across the state.
“We are so proud of Angela’s work to enhance this important role of county and town governments across the state,” said Commissioner Chairman Walter Petty. “Setting consistent standards will help us earn and retain the public’s trust in planning and zoning.”
Petty added, “I am not surprised that Angela is a leader in this area. It reflects the type of professionalism we are used to see from her and our other Planning Department staff.”
