The Chatham County Board of Health is creating an Animal Services Advisory Committee to advise the Board of Health regarding animal control, welfare, sheltering, fostering and adoption issues.

This committee is to be composed of nine members, who will fill seats designated by occupation, area of representation and avocation and staffed by the health department’s animal control manager, John Sauls. The designated seats are as follows:

· Veterinarian practicing in and resident of, Chatham County.
· Representative from the Town of Siler City, either town employee or resident.
· Representative from the rural area south and west of the Haw River.
· Representative from the Town of Pittsboro, either resident or town employee.
· Representative from the area north and east of the Haw River.
· Officer or board member of Chatham Animal Rescue and Education (CARE).
· Representative from a hunting dog club.
· Professionally certified animal handler/caretaker employed in the animal services industry in Chatham County and resident of the county.
· Veterinarian currently serving on the Board of Health.

The committee will serve at the pleasure of the Board of Health, which has the authority to approve the committee member nominees for a seat, approve or change the by-laws and govern the committee. The committee serves a purely advisory role to the Board of Health.

They are looking for individuals who have the same goal and are willing to do real work to make it happen. If you have, any questions please contact 919 542-8214.
