Pillars has been a teacher for seventeen years, has taught children in the Czech Republic, England, Nepal and the United States; she was also an instructor in the U.S. Army. She is currently the lead English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at VCE. She has written articles about educational neuroscience and best practices and is currently writing her first educational book. Pillars leads webinars on teacher leadership and global classroom practices, presents at conferences and is a visual note taker for other conference speakers. She was recently honored as Teacher of the Week by WRAL-5.
Ms. Pillars created a student service group that raised funds for a school in Nepal. Last school year she spent time in Nepal, simultaneously developing leadership skills in its low socioeconomic student base and sharing instructional practices. She has led the student spelling bee for the last few years, and is deeply involved in global education; her kids call her the “World Traveler”. In addition, Ms. Pillars serves on the VCE Lighthouse team, which teaches students about the “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.
