Siler City, NC - On Monday morning, October 22, Virginia Cross Elementary School in Siler City officially opened for over 550 students and staff. Administrators, office staff, and teachers greeted students and families as they came on campus. Upon entering the building Mrs. Virginia Cross, a longtime Chatham County teacher for whom the school is named, personally welcomed students to their new school.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. the regular school day got under way. Over the past week, teachers decorated hallways and classrooms with classroom materials and school mascot projects created by the students. The school has a lion cub as its mascot. The school colors are orange and royal blue.

The transition to the permanent campus was simplified by having students with their regular teacher and classmates since the first day of school on August 27. Students have also ridden consistent bus numbers since school began.

“Having Virginia Cross with us this morning was an added bonus. The students are so excited and so proud of their new school. I am impressed with how completely the teachers had their classrooms prepared for the arrival of students,” commented Dr. Julie Vandiver, Principal.

The school plans to hold an open house within the next week. A formal dedication/ribbon cutting ceremony will be held later in the fall.
