Siler City, NC - Sarah Johnson and Oswaldo Contreras, both seniors at Jordan-Matthews High School, have been selected as semi-finalists for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students on the basis of leadership, scholarship, physical vigor and moral force of character.
Johnson is the daughter of Raymond and Donna Johnson of Siler City, and is active in DECA, Beta Club and the school newspaper. Contrerasis the son of Jose and Delmy Contreras of Siler City, and is active in the Scholars Latino Initiative, and is a captain on the varsity soccer team.
Both will participate in interviews in January, along with the 250 other semi-finalists in North Carolina. Between sixty and seventy of these students will be chosen as finalists, and will be invited to campus interviews in March.
