Chatham County, NC - Three Chatham County seniors have been selected by the Morehead Foundation as Morehead Scholarship semifinalists. Zack Ellington is a student at Jordan-Matthews High School. Lily Smith and Siler Bryan are students at Northwood High School.

The Morehead Scholarship provides four-year tuition and other benefits to undergraduate recipients to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“They were chosen to be part of this very select group because they are dynamic young leaders in our community. They have consistently used their gifts and abilities to motivate others and to positively impact the world around them. At the same time, they have achieved a high level of personal and academic success,” noted Susan Marshall, a guidance counselor at Northwood.

As semifinalists they will interview with the regional Morehead selection committee in Southern Pines on Friday, January 12, 2007. Staff at the two schools will be working the students in preparation for the interviews.
