Chatham County, NC - Each year the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction conducts a statewide stop arm violation count on a designated day in March. Public school bus drivers in school districts report the number and type of vehicles that pass their buses from the opposite way, going the same way, on which side of the bus, and the type of roadway on which the violation occurred.

During the March 11 statewide stop arm violation count, bus drivers in Chatham County Schools reported five vehicles passed buses illegally during morning routes and five vehicles illegally passed buses during afternoon routes. Nine of the vehicles passed the buses from the opposite direction while the tenth was going the same direction as the bus. All of the vehicles passed on the left side of the bus, not on the door side of the bus. Nine of the vehicles that illegally passed buses were cars and one was a heavy truck. Eight of the violations occurred on two-lane roads and two occurred on four-lane roads.
