Chatham County, NC - For the second year Chatham County Schools has offered a Summer Institute for its teachers to study topics they can use in their classrooms. A total of 294 teachers and other certified staff like social workers and psychologists opted to take at least one of the nineteen courses that are offered in May through August.
158 of those individuals are involved in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) training that teaches educators how to help students acquire better study skills, note and test taking skills, organization, and time management.
Among the other topics were teacher mentor training, building blocks for reading and writing in pre-k, graphing strategies for algebra I and pre-algebra, and corrective reading.
