Seventh- and eighth-grade art students at North Chatham School have been working with artist-in-residence Rita Schiavone, a professional ceramic artist.

The school PTA sponsored the residency at the request of art teacher Judy Ingram.

Forty-six seventh- and eighth-graders worked in small groups with Schiavone during the ceramic wheel classes. She also helped the students glaze pots after they had been bisque fired.

Schiavone has a studio at the Arts Incubator in Siler City and teaches ceramics through Chatham County Community College. She has also taught art at Horton Middle, East Chapel Hill High, North Chatham and the Carolina Friends School.
