Chatham has six newly National Board certified teachers

Chatham County, NC - Six teachers in Chatham County Schools are among the most recent group of educators to earn National Board Certified Teachers. The program is sponsored by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

The Chatham County teachers are:

Melanie Reece - Siler City Elementary - Literacy: Reading/Language Arts
Dawn Streets - Perry Harrison - Social Studies
Teresa Meadows - Siler City Elementary - School Counseling
Leslie Burwell - Northwood - Art
Valinda Wooten - Horton - Exceptional Needs
Tami Henson - Bennett - Literacy: Reading/Language Arts

NBPTS is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan and non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing the quality of teaching and learning. National Board Certification is the highest credential in the teaching profession. A voluntary process established by NBPTS, certification is achieved through a rigorous performance-based assessment that takes between one and three years to complete and measures what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.
