Instant Alert™ for schools registration reminder

Chatham County, NC - Have you registered for or updated your Instant Alert™ for Schools account?

This rapid communication system allows individual schools and the central office to quickly notify families and employees of school closings, emergencies, events, and announcements. Within the account the individual can choose how to be notified. Notification via email, telephone, and text messaging are among the choices.

Chatham County Schools has an Instant Alert ™ information page on its website. Instruction sheets for staff and parents are located there.

The school district has all full-time school system employees and families entered in the system. Accounts are set at a default to receive all levels of messages on the home telephone until the individual registers, during which time he/she can change the account settings.

Individuals can choose to receive messages in either English or Spanish. The default setting is English. Accounts are confidential, controlled by the individual, and can be updated at any time.

When inclement weather force school delays or closings, the district uses the Instant Alert™ system to notify school families and staff. The normal radio and television media are also contacted as usual.

The registration/update process takes minutes and can be invaluable in allowing the school system to rapidly communicate with large groups.

It is important that employees notify their school and the Chatham County Schools Human Resources Department (HR) of home phone number changes, and that families notify their school(s) of home phone number changes as the system is updated each summer using SIMS and HR data. Employees and families should make any phone number (home and cellular)changes in their Instant Alert™ accounts as well. Otherwise, a community member who is assigned the number may receive Instant Alert™ messages.
