Siler City, NC - On Thursday, March 10, the SAGE Academy library media center held a video conferencing Skype session with author Paul Volponi. Thirteen SAGE students read at least one book by Volponi during the first semester of school and formulated questions to ask the writer. Teachers and administrators as well as students enjoyed the author's presentation.

"The experience was awesome," stated student Brittney McGeachy.

The writer delved into his experiences as an educator, expressed interest in and questioned students on both their academic performances and personal interests and gave students the following sage advice: "Keep reading and always write. I hope to one day be reading one of your novels."

Student Millison Newby stated, "Mr. Volponi's message was inspiring and he makes me want to write."

Volponi generously donated his time for the session for SAGE students after reading the article "Discovering Volponi" in Library Media Connection by the SAGE Academy media coordinator, Nonya Brown-Chesney, that detailed how his books inspired many of the SAGE students.

Volponi is the author of ten young adult novels including Black and White, Hurricane Song, Rucker Park Setup, Riker's High and Homestretch. His novels focus on strong male characters that are facing many of the hardships and life changing decisions that our students face today.
