Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Board of Education has selected Robert Logan, 53, as its unanimous choice to be the next Superintendent of Chatham County Schools. Logan will begin working in the district on May 15.
Logan has served as the Associate Superintendent of Innovation and School Transformation with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) since July of 2007. He was Superintendent of Asheville City Schools from 2001 until mid-2007. Logan worked in Lee County Schools from 1994 until 2001, first as an assistant superintendent and later as Superintendent for four years.
Logan’s career in education spans over thirty years and includes jobs as an exceptional children teacher, coach, five principalships and positions at the central office level.
Board Chair Kathie Russell noted that Logan is a problem-solver who will bring change and innovations to the challenges that are unique to Chatham County. She also commented that Logan has roots in the area and has a good understanding of the needs of Chatham County Schools.
“We are very excited about having Robert lead our district. His leadership and vision will help us shape Chatham County Schools into excellent centers of learning and will help our students succeed in the face of the rapidly changing forces and demographics in our county,” said Russell.
Logan earned a Bachelor of Science from Western Carolina University. He holds a Master of School Leadership and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from East Carolina University.
“I look forward to joining the Chatham County Schools team and look forward to continuing the tradition of providing excellent educational services to the children of Chatham County,” said Logan.
His wife, Sonia, is also a professional educator. The couple has two children that will be students in the district this fall. One is a 7th grader and the other is a 9th grader.
