Pittsboro, NC - On Monday morning, April 16, students in Jennifer Halsey's kindergarten class received a surprise visit from Read-a-Roo and a news crew from UNC-TV. One student in particular, Gabriel Wright, was surprised to learn that he was the reason for the visit. His parents entered a book he wrote in the Reading Rainbow Young Author's Contest. The book, entitled The Fish and the Shark, was the first place winner for kindergarten in the state. His entry will now move on to the national level competition.

Wright is the son of Kathryn Aronson and Peter Wright. The visitors gave him several gifts that included a Leapster, a Reading Rainbow backpack, an art set and several gift certificates to places like Build-a-Bear, the movies, Barnes and Noble, and several restaurants.

“I am very proud of Gabriel. It is wonderful to see how excited he is about being a great writer. I think that the love and support of Gabriel's parents and our Writer's Workshop program have inspired Gabriel to become the great writer that he is,” commented Halsey.
