What happened to the Cole Park PTA drop box?

Chatham County, NC - The Cole Park thrift shop box was removed because:

* Folks left true garbage in the box.

* Some donations left at the box were not of the quality the Thrift Shop sells. This created lots of other garbage for the store to handle and pay to dispose of.

* Donations were often stolen from the box.

* Beautiful, fragile donations were left in the box and broken.

* The box was used as a garbage drop when the collection center was closed or for folks who did not have a sticker. Large upholstered items with rips or stains and broken appliances and furniture were left near the box. These items were a very big hassle due to the fact that the county expected them to be hauled to Siler City to the transfer station.

* Lack of volunteers to move the donations from the box into the store.

The store appreciates the generosity of Chatham citizens and friends and welcomes your donations.

To donate:

* The Cole Park store is open 9am to 5 pm, Mon. to Fri. and 9am to 4pm on Sat.

* Just inside the front door are donation bins for your items. Please put the items in the bins. Staff are available to assist with large donations.

* Staff is often at the store early and late. Give them a call, 969-9457, if you would like to arrange a drop off at another time.

* Limited availability for donation pickup - call the store to arrange, 969-9457.

* There are still drop boxes in Pittsboro at Lowes grocery, Pittsboro Elementary, and Horton Middle School.

Thanks to the generosity of so many, the Chatham PTA organizations have received nearly $370,000 this past week! This is truly amazing - the schools benefit, tons of items are "recycled", and fantastic bargains are available for all shoppers.
