Pittsboro, NC - Students in math classes of Kristine Brown at Margaret B. Pollard Middle School participated in a STEM Career Math Fair on Wednesday, June 8. During the last few weeks of school, students researched and created projects that represented careers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field. Projects included radiologist, pharmacist, veterinarian, electrical contractor, engineers (civil, mechanical, electrical, biomedical, computer hardware), computer programmer, data base administrator, fishing and game warden, video game designer, graphic designer, accountant, and architect.

Students displayed their projects through PowerPoints, video, and posters. Students dressed up as their profession as well as displaying the tools needed for their profession. Parents, community members, and students were invited to attend the fair.

"The STEM Career Math Fair was an enriching experience that motivated students to investigate careers encompassing science, technology, engineering, and math skills for the 21st century. Students were "experts" in their selected field and shared their knowledge with others," said Kristine Brown, the teacher who coordinated the event.
