Several students from Perry Harrison School have qualified for the State Level of the Reader's Digest National Word Power Challenge Championship. These students are invited to compete with other students from across North Carolina in the State Championship to be held on Friday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. at Weddington High School in Matthews, NC near Charlotte. Garrett Holt, 6th Grade Champion, and Cassandra Silenzi, 8th Grade Champion, along with three others from Perry Harrison, qualified for Grade Level Championship in a contest at the school in early January.

In mid-March 2005, up to 100 students in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia will compete for the title of State Champion in the statewide level of the Reader's Digest National Word Power Challenge. State Champions, along with their teachers, win an all-expenses-paid trip to Walt Disney World® in Orlando, Florida. Each of these students represents their state at the National Championship event where they vie for the title of National Word Power Champion and a share of $50,000 in college scholarships.
