Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood High School competition cheerleading squad concluded another strong competitive season. The squad competed three times during the months of January and February. The highlight of the season was when the Chargers repeated as the 2006 Co-Ed State Champions. The team members each received state champion t-shirts and the team brought another State Championship Trophy to Northwood.

The competition cheerleading squad consists of four males and twenty-one females. The squad consisted of twelve seniors, six juniors, three sophomores, and four freshmen. Senior cheerleaders include Morris Worrell, Heather Anderson, Megean Collins, Katelin Vess, Brandi Jenkins, Jameka Taylor, Sarah Lewis, Elizabeth Parks, Ryan Wilkie, Amanda Markham, Justin Beau, and Brian Kreigh.

Two of the seniors, Megean Collins and Katelin Vess, were selected by the North Carolina Cheerleading Coaches Association as all-region cheerleaders. Katelin Vess, along with Brandi Jenkins, were recently hired by the National Cheerleaders Association as event and summer camp staff.

The squad is coached by Jerry and Stephanie Hackney, and Jamey Davidson. Jerry and Stephanie also coach the varsity and junior varsity cheerleading squads at Northwood.

“The coaches would like to thank everyone on the squad and their parents for their hard work which resulted in a successful season,” said Jerry Hackney.

The cheerleading season is now completed for the Charger cheerleaders, but will be starting again soon with tryouts taking place April 10-13 for the 2006-2007 season.
