Pittsboro, NC - Henry Foust, a Spanish teacher at Northwood High School and the student council adviser, is the recipient of two student council adviser awards. Foust won the state and regional adviser of the year awards. He has been the Northwood student council adviser for twenty-three years.

As a regional winner, Foust represented region 3, which is comprised of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Washington, D.C. He was one of eight national Warren E. Shull High School Advisers of the Year sponsored by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) and was recognized at the June national NASC convention in Texas. This is the nineteenth year of the Shull Awards.

“Student activity advisers play a vital role in providing opportunities for students to learn how to be leaders in their schools and communities,” said Rocco M. Marano, Director, National Association of Student Councils. “NASC is proud to honor Henry Foust for his outstanding contributions.”

“Henry has devoted his entire career to the leadership and character development of young people. He certainly exemplifies the characteristics of a dedicated student council adviser… Henry is truly a student-oriented individual. Every thought, word, and action is taken with students in mind. He constantly encourages students to develop leadership skills and, more importantly, to put those skills to use. His councils have been some of the most active in our state over the years,” wrote Colby L. Cochran, Executive Director of the North Carolina Association of Student Councils in his award letter of support.

The National Association of Student Councils (NASC) promotes and provides leadership development opportunities to prepare and empower student leaders to serve their schools and communities. NASC is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
