Pittsboro, NC - Three high schools in NC are participating as “Be Active NC” schools trying to promote more physical activity and better nutrition programs for students and teachers to reduce the nation’s obesity problem. Northwood High School is one of these schools and will participate in the program for the 2011-2012 school year. The school will receive a $2500 Grant if it has over 600 students and 30 percent of its staff participating in the Be Active NC Program. The BANC slogan is: more people, more active, more often!

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, many families were vacationing while Northwood High School was holding it’s Be Active NC Kick-off for its students and teachers. There were 46 different activities provided across the campus for students and staff to participate in. These included sport, recreational, field day style, dance, jump rope, and inflatable type activities. The smiles and laughter showed, even in the heat, that they had a great time.

The BANC committee members are:
Lyn Smith (Advisor, Northwood Health & PE teacher)

Maxwell Johnston
Shelton Moser
Jasmine Sanderford
Hannah Holloway
