Pittsboro, NC - Julia Wood, a junior student-athlete at Northwood High School, benefited from exemplifying sportsmanship as a member of the Charger cross country, basketball, and track teams. Wood received $500 in a drawing in which her name was entered as a result of all Northwood athletic teams having no ejections during the 2004-2005 school year.

At the end of each high school sports season the athletic director from each school submits a form to the state of any teams that went the season ejection free. On the form the athletic director also lists five players who demonstrated exceptionally good sportsmanship. At the end of the school year, the state has a blind drawing for eight winners. Julia was one of the athletes drawn.

As Northwood Athletic Director Bill Hall said, "It pays to show great sportsmanship."
