Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood High School Key Club sponsored a holiday food drive for CORA (Chatham Outreach Alliance), a local food bank. Students and staff collected all types of canned goods for community use. Over 2,000 goods were donated.

“I am proud of our students for demonstrating their strong sense of community service through this food drive,” said Joel County, principal of Northwood High School.

On Tuesday, December 20, the Pittsboro Kiwanis Club helped celebrate the successful food drive and transported the cans to CORA which is based in Pittsboro. All the food donated will remain in Chatham County. After school on Tuesday, Key Club members, club advisors JJ Van Vickle and Diana Huston, Kiwanis members, and other volunteers loaded the bags and boxes into vehicles outside the math wing of the school.

During the day Tuesday, students of business teacher Jane Pendergrast built a can pyramid, photographed it and used the pictures to update the Northwood website as a part of their curriculum.

The Key Club is the oldest and largest service organization for high school students. Its parent organization is Kiwanis International.

The Student Council at Horton Middle School sponsored a CORA food drive earlier that had similar results to those of the Northwood Key Club.
