Pittsboro, NC - Five students from Alan Slavin's third grade class at North Chatham School were selected as recognized for their work in an essay contest sponsored by the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team. Each student wrote an essay about a book that he or she read including likes and dislikes about the book.

The five North Chatham students were selected to be in the top twenty finalists from area schools. They were invited to a luncheon at the VIP restaurant at the RBC Center during which they met Stormy the mascot and the voice of the Hurricanes. They each received a certificate and a bobblehead.

The winners are: Emily Arroyo, Elan Doyle, Bradley Svirk, Andrew Taylor, and Gavin Williams.
