Pittsboro, NC - North Chatham School recently held a fundraiser for the family of one of its kindergarten students who has leukemia and is undergoing treatment. With the help of the National Junior Honor Society, the school raised $6, 822.66 for the student and her family.

During the week-long fundraiser North Chatham students brought coins or cash each day. The homeroom that donated the most money won an ice cream party. Many students and parents held neighborhood collections as part of the fundraiser.

“Kayla's family is so thankful for the support we have given them. We even had a sixth grader empty out his entire savings account for Kayla. It was amazing,” said Jennifer Halsey, a kindergarten teacher.

“The organizers would like special thanks to the following people who went above and beyond to help make this fundraiser a success: the Lang Family, the House Family, the Kumnick Family, the Queen Family, Molly McLean, Jane Marlow, Weston Castor, and the National Junior Honor Society,” added Halsey.
