Pittsboro, NC - On March 18, Cindi Rigsbee, the North Carolina Teacher of the Year and reading teacher at Gravelley Hills Middle School in Orange County, presented a session entitled "Literacy for Life" to Chatham County teachers at the central office in Pittsboro.
"Rigsbee shared many practical, yet engaging, ideas to get students involved in literacy learning. Her presentation had her audience laughing one minute and shedding tears the next. She told personal stories and read from her poetry and essays that she shares with her students to open their minds to literacy. As one of four finalist for National Teacher of the Year, Cindi proved to be an inspirational speaker as well as a talented educator who willingly shares her expertise with her colleagues. The participants left the session with great ideas to use with their students and a renewed since of pride in their profession," explained Carlene White, the language arts curriculum resource teacher for the district.
