Chatham County, NC - The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards has announced its newest group of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT). Twelve teachers in Chatham County Schools were among the nearly 7,800 teachers nationwide to achieve National Board Certification in 2006, a seven percent increase over the number of teachers who earned certification in 2005. Ten Chatham County teachers earned National Board Certification in 2005.

The voluntary process complements state licensure and includes four portfolio entries which address planning of instruction, student assessment, and evidence of commitment to the learning community.
