Moncure, NC - “Say the work; spell it; say the word again.” Moncure students in grades 3-5 followed those instructions precisely during their grade level spelling bees. Third grade winners were: Brooks Johnson, Nate Allen, and Bailey Hawley. Fourth grade winner were: Sarah Moore, Kaity Jarvela, and Leonna Brander. Fifth grade winners included Halle Upchurch, Zoe Willard, and Joseph Lorbacher.

These nine grade level winners then competed for the school-wide title during a morning spelling bee in the media center. Caroline Betts served as moderator, while Sandy Cutler and Mrs. Amber Norman served as judges. The Moncure spelling bee winner was Zoe Willard. First place was awarded to Sarah Moore, and second place was awarded to Kaity Jarvela. Students received their trophies during the awards’ ceremony on Wednesday, June 8.
