Moncure School is operating on a regular schedule Friday, October 15, after closing early on Thursday due to an area water problem. Moncure was the only county school affected by the water problem. On Thursday the issue was thought to be a water break near Old US 1. Repairmen found it to be a split in the line instead of a break which was less serious.

Simply as a precautionary measure, students and staff at Moncure will be served an alternate lunch menu on Friday. The lunch, consisting of corn dog nuggets, french fries, and canned fruit, does not require the use of water for preparation. Cafeteria staff dealt with the change under the guidance of the Child Nutrition Department of Chatham County Schools. The breakfast menu of waffles, peanut butter, and milk was not affected.
