Bonlee, NC - Alyssa Mathewson, an eighth grader at Bonlee School, successfully auditioned in January and placed in the eighth chair in Symphonic Band, which is the top band out of the two highly selective honors bands within the state district of band directors. She auditioned in January along with several hundred middle school students from the Greensboro and Raleigh areas.

Mathewson rehearsed in Asheboro with the other members of the honors band on February 1 and performed in the concert with peers on February 2.
“This is a great honor as Alyssa only started playing the horn in August of 2007. She was competing against students who have had two or more years experience. This is an extremely selective and difficult ensemble to perform with. Congratulations to Alyssa on her great achievement,” said Heather Meredith, Bonlee band director.
