Pittsboro, NC - The Northwood Marching Charger Band prepared to make its final presentation of 2012’s competition program, Successor to the Throne, on Saturday, November 3, at Lee Senior High School’s Brick Capital Classic. The band has appeared at four previous festivals this season, under the direction of Eugene Cottrell and drum major, Allory Bors. Successor to the Throne features the music of Muse and Queen.
"During the last few years we have been in the class AA division with horn lines ranging in size from 30-40 but this year we made a huge jump in numbers. With 34 new freshmen in the group we've bumped our numbers way up to 58 in the horn line and 80 total members. With that many new marchers in the line up it is truly amazing how far this band has come in the last few weeks. If we were a football or basketball team this might be considered a 'rebuilding year' but this group has picked up right where we left off from last year winning their class and out scoring groups with a large size advantage as well. Please consider coming down to Sanford to see them in their element this coming Saturday evening. Remember that no one sits the bench in our sport and we truly appreciate your support," said director, Eugene Cottrell.
This year, the Chargers competed in the AAA division in Sanford. At last year’s Brick Capital Classic, the band was named A/AA Grand Champions and received the Bryan Tyner High Horn Line Award for the highest music score of the day.
The band won first place in AAA competition and first place honors including Music, Marching, Drum Major and Percussion.
Other opportunities to see the band this year include holiday parade appearances in Pittsboro at 2 PM on December 2, in Siler City on December 6 at 7 PM, and Saturday morning, December 8, at 10 AM in Snow Camp. The Northwood Holiday Concert is scheduled for Thursday, December 13, at 7 PM. This annual celebration is a benefit for the CORA Food Pantry and features all NHS band students as well as choral students under the direction of Matthew Hanson.
