Siler City, NC - Lynne Davis, a teacher assistant at Virginia Cross Elementary School in Siler City, has been named the 2010 Chatham County Teacher Assistant of the Year.

In the nomination, Davis was complimented for having strong skills in the classroom and for her outstanding working relationship with students and their families. She has been instrumental in collecting books for the school's Positive Behavior Support program in which students can choose a book to keep with reward tickets for exhibiting good behavior. She also has collected books for the school's upcoming summer bookmobile.

“She remembers strategies that worked in the past, and others that didn’t, and is able to tailor her instruction to the needs of the particular student. Her instruction is built upon best practices, and her interaction with students is always positive and effective,” wrote the staff member at Cross who nominated Davis.

"What an honor for Lynne, who is a model of how to work wonderfully with children, to be honored by the school district. We are fortunate to have her on staff at Virginia Cross Elementary," commented Dr. Julie Vandiver, her principal.
