Pittsboro, NC - This is Leslie Burwell's thirteenth year directing Visual Arts at Northwood High School and her fifth year as chair of the arts education department. In addition to teaching, she serves as the faculty advisor for Northwood's National Art Honor Society chapter and as the faculty liaison for the Northwood High School Arts Education Foundation. She is a National Board Certified teacher in Art for the young and adult learner. Since June 2014 she has served as one of two NHS educators selected to be a member of NC Governor's Teacher Network.
Leslie Burwell received her bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in art and theatre at the University of South Carolina. She previously taught theater at Zebulon Elementary Arts Magnet. She received her Arts Education Degree at Meredith College in 1991. She has received scholarships at Penland as a studio assistant and taught art at the Raleigh Museum of Art. She enjoys hiking, camping and sailing with her husband, Lee, and children, Rebecca and Daniel.
