Goldston, NC - Michael (Micky) Fields, a seventh grader at J.S. Waters School, participated in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYL) held April 12-15 in Washington, D.C.

The conference focuses on eight leadership traits and highlights leaders in American history and social advocacy through site experiences, hands-on activities and workshops. Students who participate in the conference are encouraged apply the public speaking skills, self-confidence and understanding of the key principles of leadership they learn to their everyday lives and in their homes and communities.

“I nominated Micky to participate because he has worked really hard this year, and I felt that this would be a great opportunity. Micky came back with an air of confidence. He learned a great deal about leadership and leadership qualities. I was honored to nominate him to represent Chatham County Schools and J.S. Waters. I have nominated students before and I thought that this would be great for him,” commented Beverly Browne, Principal.
